We are working on digitally recreating all of the buildings on the historic grounds of the Traverse City State Hospital, now reborn as The Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

• These are not photos.
• These are images that have never been seen before
• These are 3D recreations from archival plans, photos and field measurements, created with the same techniques as today’s CG movies
• These images show, to the best of our knowledge, what the buildings looked like in their prime

This first offering depicts the front of what is now called “Building 50″ as it appeared in 1890.

It turned out better than I remember it. I think it holds up pretty well next to the photographs on the page.

Just realized tonight that I never posted the video we did for Series Seating!

I first met Ron Ogden, VP/Sales at the 2008 Church Solutions Expo in Phoenix.  His booth was across the aisle from ours, so we naturally visited during breaks.  Over subsequent months, we exchanged phone calls gradually fleshing out Ron’s idea for a movie trailer style video clip to introduce their “Celebration II” theater seat.

In addition to this video clip, we also created a 3D model of their seat in a format that could be used by architects and designers in their own modeling software to help them fill auditoriums with the comfort and convenience that the Celebration II offers.

As I posted a few days ago, we recently completed a rendering of the proposed remodel of the T.C. Mazda dealership into a new home for Fox Motors Mercedes.  After we delivered that project, the Fox Motors people wanted to see something similar for their remodel of the Grand Traverse Auto building.  As before, we received plans from Traverse Architectural Group and further direction from our client, Lionel Thomas, whose company Pegasus Holdings and Land Development would be performing the work.

Got a call from client Lionel Thomas of Pegasus Holdings and Land Development.  He was in talks with Fox Motors of Grand Rapids regarding their upcoming purchase of Grand Traverse Auto, one of the region’s oldest car dealerships.  (Read more here)  As part of the transition, they would be moving the Mazda arm of the business into the main building and moving their existing Mercedes dealership from Acme, MI into the vacated building.  The change from Mazda to Mercedes would naturally involve some design changes to the building to reflect the different character of the respective makers.  For this, Lionel turned to Traverse Architectural Group.  In order to sell their design to Fox Motors and Mercedes, Lionel needed to have these architectural plans converted into pictures that everyone could understand.  Enter J. Scott Smith Visual Designs.  After nailing down the colors and angle that Lionel wanted to show, we crafted an image that they could use in pitching their plan to all necessary parties.

Below are a picture of the Mazda dealership and our rendering of the building as it will be converted.

Just finished a sample image of the interior of a bookstore. The layout and fixtures were based on designs by Design Identity for one of their projects. We made some adjustments and populated the shelves with books and CDs to make a photoreal presentation. Let me know what you think!

These are a few of the renderings we did to show various staging and lighting options for an existing church. Easy way to test out some ideas without any unnecessary ladder moves or back strains!
