We are working on digitally recreating all of the buildings on the historic grounds of the Traverse City State Hospital, now reborn as The Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

• These are not photos.
• These are images that have never been seen before
• These are 3D recreations from archival plans, photos and field measurements, created with the same techniques as today’s CG movies
• These images show, to the best of our knowledge, what the buildings looked like in their prime

This first offering depicts the front of what is now called “Building 50″ as it appeared in 1890.

According to a February post on their website, “Sleepy Bear Campgrounds on M-72 in Empire Township has been sold and will be part of Indigo Bluffs recreational retreat. The property … is undergoing renovations to include a two-story registration building, the addition of 40 lots for site ownership by Class A motorhome owners, and a new sanitary sewer system.”

Long before this purchase, owner/developer Gary Becker had already begun to assemble a team of consultants and designers to help him realize his dreams of a luxury motorcoach resort in Northern Michigan.

Part of their marketing strategy was to have us create 3 videos for them to use on their website, at trade shows, and to hand out to prospective owners.

Video 1 is “Indigo Bluffs – The Region”. This was intended to give a quick introduction of what Northern Michigan living is all about.

Video 2 was “Indigo Bluffs – The Site”. This was to communicate the merits of the location and the amenities of the site.

Video 3 was “Indigo Bluffs – The Development”. This was the largest piece for us – a fully 3D presentation of the site concept.

Currently working on wrapping up a video for the development “Indigo Bluffs”, a “distinctive RV retreat” in Northern Michigan. Some weeks ago the client asked us to stage a single lot and render it so it could be used as a backdrop for their traveling trade show booth. Upon speaking with the display manufacturer, we found that they required an image that would print 10′ x 12′ at 300dpi. Gulp! We had never rendered an image that large, so this was a test for us. It came out very well however, and I’m told it has generated quite a bit of buzz at the shows. It seems they had to spend quite some time explaining that this was a rendered concept of what a site could be, and not a photo of a site they could purchase!

I have included the frame we rendered, as well as a photo of the booth at a show. Nice work guys!

The Old Town Playhouse is planning a facelift. Ken Richmond of Richmond + Associates Architects conceived the design and forwarded us his sketches. We measured the existing building, modeled it in 3D, and created a rendering to convey Ken’s design.
